Salt Lake City turns into a winter wonderland when it starts to snow in November. Many people tend to stay indoors during this time of year, but did you know Salt Lake City has activities for you to take advantage of during the cold winter months? Below are just some of the best things to do this winter.
Utah Olympic Park
The Olympic Park was created for the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games. After the Games were over, the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation wanted to engage Utah’s youth in winter sports activities. The Park offers two different winter courses. The Winter Summit Course is the more challenging of the two. It is an advanced-level design that tests the participants’ strength, agility, balance, and coordination. The Winter Canyon Course is a more intermediate-level course that tests the abilities to handle log traverses, swinging element, and problem-solving features. The Park also has winter sports programs such as g-force bobsled and skeleton, alpine, freestyle, and Nordic season passes!
National History Museum of Utah
The NHMU has an array of different exhibitions. While it is educational, it also is an experience that can be fun for all ages. Learning about the weather, the environment, and past worlds all while being out of the cold weather. During different months, they offer special exhibitions as well. The museum also offers free days throughout the year, and in 2019.
On the Mountains
It would not be winter in Utah without hitting the slopes. Utah is home to 10 world class ski resorts that range in slope difficulty and have activities for the entire family. Whether you are looking to go snow tubing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, or snowmobiling, there is a ski resort to fit your outdoor needs.
Sundance Film Festival
From January 24 – February 3rd, Park City turns into a film lover’s dream. Entering its 30th year, the Sundance Film Festival showcases some of the most innovative storytelling currently happening in the film industry. Sundance venues are also located in Salt Lake City, Ogden and at actor Robert Redford’s Sundance Mountain Resort. The festival hosts screenings and panels for some of the years top Indie movies as well as sponsored venues for shopping and events at the two local ski resorts.
