The world has changed a lot in the last few months, and if you’re a travel addict, you’ve probably had a hard time adjusting to being stuck at home. Many of your summer trips have likely been canceled, and it’s hard to tell when traveling will truly be safe again. Luckily, technology has allowed individuals to experience new things without ever leaving the comfort of their home. There are plenty of ways a person can use this tech to travel to locations all around the world, and while it may not be as good as the real thing, it’s still a pretty good alternative.

Guided Virtual Tours

A popular thing to do when traveling is take guided walking tours, as they’re a great way to help you truly learn about a destination or specific attraction. Luckily, walking tour companies such as Take Walks have begun offering virtual guided tours that you can do from home. These are great ways to learn about different locations or potential future destinations before going there, all from the comfort of your couch. Some popular tours include virtual tours of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, a virtual tour of the Louvre in Paris and a virtual tour of the Met Museum in New York City.

Travel Centric Films

If virtual tours aren’t your thing and you also happen to be a movie buff, try watching a travel themed movie. Some travel themed movies are purely fictional with others being based on true stories, but many of them can really give you a look at parts of the world you’ve never seen before. A few examples include Lord of the Rings, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Way or The Lion King (2019). These movies, while not all explicitly about travel, feature stunning shots of the various countries they were filmed in, which could inspire anyone to want to travel to them.

Try Cooking!

Many travelers believe that the best way to truly experience traveling to a new location is through their food. It could be traditional pizza in Italy or an authentic Mexican dish, and by eating a dish from a place we’ve been to or would like to visit can sometimes transport us there. Fortunately, you can often look into buying cookbooks based on different parts of the world and try cooking their food for yourself! This gives you the opportunity to learn a new dish, learn about a location’s culture and get something good to eat all at the same time.
